Suicide is a subject that's difficult to talk about. People who feel like there is no alternative often feel that way because they have nowhere to turn for help. That's why the Victoria Independent School District is teaming up with Gulf Bend Center to open discussion on the topic in a meeting set for Monday.

The Suicide Awareness and Prevention Community Conversation takes place Monday October 24th at 6pm at the VISD Conference Center at 2909 Miori Lane in Victoria, and is open to the public.

At the meeting, Gulf Bend Center will provide information on suicide prevention, including training, warning signs, how to reach out to help, and intervention.

VISD Counseling Coordinator Kim Motley says the effort was inspired by students, and is an effort to be proactive and "partner with our parents to help them see the warning signs and things to look for in their children."

The meeting is open to not just Victoria, but also to residents of surrounding counties.
