U.S. Representatives to Vote on Decriminalization of Marijuana
THE House is about to vote if you can legally have weed in YOUR house.
The bill, called the 'MORE' Act which stands for The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement Act, and according to govtrack.us, is "The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act (HR 3884 / S. 2227), and is bipartisan legislation that removes marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, thus decriminalizing the substance at the federal level and enabling states to set their own policies."
In just a few days, the US House of Representatives is expected to vote whether to pass the MORE Act.
The historic and monumental MORE Act would also create crucial changes in policy outside of decriminalization such as permitting physicians to make medical marijuana recommendations to veterans who reside in states where marijuana is legalized as well as expunging (removing) previous convictions of minute possession of marijuana charges, while opening doors for individuals to grow marijuana in small amounts in their homes for recreational purposes.
According to the NORML website where you can petition to congress to legalize marijuana by submitting your name on the petition in the blue link, The MORE Act will also allow the SBA to formally support small businesses growing marijuana, which in some states is already considered a viable and lucrative business.
The MORE ACT would also authorize the assessment of a 5% sales tax on marijuana.
According to recent Gallup polls which you can view here, "Two-third of Americans favor making marijuana usage legal." This is a far cry from only 12% of Americans supporting its legalization in 1969 when Gallup first introduced the question on its surveys.
High Times reports the MORE Act has more than 100 co-sponsors in the House with everyone awaiting the decision when it makes its way to the floor during the week of Sept. 21st.
If passed in the House, the MORE Act would still need to be passed in the Senate before becoming a law.
