Update* According to Daily Mail UK on Wednesday, the owners of Red Hook Seafood and Bar hit back, saying the story had not been properly reported. They claim the customer's credit card declined, and they were unable to process the $2000 gratuity to be forwarded on to Bauer.

As the heart of the holidays quickly approach, it's not uncommon for caring patrons to tip larger amounts than they normally do.

Many of us can appreciate the feeling you get when you're given a little extra for your efforts, especially if you've ever worked in retail or the service industry!

For one Texas waitress, the euphoric feeling of getting a big tip was short lived.

Emily Bauer of San Antonio had only been a waitress for less than a month at Red Hook Cajun Seafood and Bar in San Antonio, when she received an incredible $2,000.00 tip from a very understanding customer who hadn't actually been served his food before he left her with the generous tip and note that read, " Merry Christmas, Keep up the good work."

My kids! I’m going to spend it all on my kids,'” Emily thought when she saw the tip. “I was like, 'Oh my God.' I’ve never had a Christmas where I’ve been able to like splurge on them." According to KVUE in San Antonio,  Emily cried as soon as she saw the tip amount only to hear from her employer that they could not cash the tip.

They claim they are only able to cash tip amounts of $500.00 and below.

Emily was understandably devastated.

This story has reached news organizations all over the United States with the NY Post reporting that, "Other servers suggested that the restaurant give her four separate tips of $500, but the seafood joint refused, KVUE reported. It is unclear why the restaurant couldn’t process $500 of the $2,000 tip to give to Bauer, in line with its limits.

Emily asked for her patron's information from the restaurant but according to the NY Post report, the restaurant claimed they no longer had it.

So Emily took to social media, thanking the patron and explaining the situation. Her message to the mysterious customer offered, “Even though I can’t receive it, thank you. Thank you for having such a big heart. This world is filled with messed up people. It’s like, how did he know I needed that?” Bauer said.

Hopefully, it will get ironed out and Emily can enjoy the holiday season as it was meant to be enjoyed.

What's the biggest tip you've ever given or received?
