Texas’ Oldest Deli is Right Here in Victoria
Fossati's Deli was established in 1882 and is still going strong in the Crossroads after almost 140 years! Today I got my first chance to go enjoy lunch down at 302 S. Main street and take a look at what this deli has been doing right to keep itself in business for this long.
The Deli was started by Frank Napoleon Fossati in 1882 and the original family is said to still be a part of the location which was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in May of 1991 according to Wikipedia. Legend has it that during the early years the deli actually moved its location several times, eventually occupying nearly every corner of the square downtown before its current building went up in 1895.
Fossati's Delicatessen in Victoria
Believe it or not, Fossati's Deli has even hosted special musical performances over the years including a stop from Texas Legend Willie Nelson. Owner Frank Napoleon also had a special room in the back of the deli rumored to be the Frank Napoleon room. In this room was a bookshelf with hundreds of cookbooks with recipes saved over the years that have turned into some of the deli's favorite offerings. Fossati's menu can be found on their Facebook page where they often share daily specials featured during the week. A clutch bookmark for sure.
As we stopped by for lunch today we found out that Fossati's will be open this Saturday from 11 to 2 so you can enjoy lunch as you visit the downtown events this weekend. A car show will be taking place this weekend so enjoy the event and stop by and say hello to Fossati's.
