Texas is making a major change to its license and identification cards. The changes include a fresh look that comes with security features.

"Starting May 3, 2023, you’ll need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license with a gold star, a valid passport, or U.S. military ID to travel by air in the U.S."

If you apply for or renew your state identification card or license after May 3, 2023, you will receive the new REAL ID compliant card. A yellow star will be imprinted on the new cards giving the owner authorization to travel on a plane.

REAL ID COMPLIANT CARDS

Man residents in Texas have already received a new REAL ID card. If your card has a yellow star in the upper right card, you're already good to go.

After May 3, 2023, if you do not have a REAL ID compliant card you may continue to use it for non-federal purposes, such as operating a motor vehicle, voting, or banking.
