New year, new fear unlocked: dangerous parasitic worm.

In the past, blue green algae has been found in the Guadalupe River and other bays and lakes in our area. Awareness is the key to preventing illness in people and death in livestock and pets.

Last Thursday, a skunk in the Mission Oaks neighborhood in Victoria County tested positive for rabies. Mission Oaks is in northwest Victoria County, off Upper Mission Valley Road. Officials say residents should watch for weird acting skunks. Weird acting or not, its probably a good idea to watch out for skunks.

People strongly believe what should happen once a dog is declared legally dangerous. Some think the dog should be immediately put down. Others believe that the dog should have a chance to rehabilitate. Texas law gives dangerous dogs a lot of leeway.
