As a person who played soccer in high school(GO BIG BLUE).   I was very excited to hear about this.  A new soccer complex is coming to Riverside park!

Crews broke ground on August 14th at the new location at the corner of North Bluff and Red River at the entrances to Riverside Park.  The new venue will be a six-field complex to be used by the Victoria Youth Soccer Organization to host games.  This project was approved during the June 16 City Council meeting.

The project is scheduled to be completed in February 2020. This is great for the City of Victoria for a couple of reasons.  Of course, it will be a new site for the Victoria Youth Soccer Organization soccer games.  It will also allow the Parks and Recreation Department to expand its leagues and will encourage sports tourism by serving as a venue for soccer tournaments.

The city of Victoria is also hosting a socially distanced paddle down the Guadalupe River during the City of Victoria Parks & Recreation’s annual kayak clinic on Aug. 22.

The clinic is designed to teach those with little or no kayaking experience, but Anglin said kayakers of all skill levels attend and that more experienced kayakers tend to help out the beginners.

Everyone who registers will be entered into a drawing to win a $400 gift card from Academy Sports + Outdoors. The drawing will take place during the program, and the winner must be present in order to claim the prize.

Registration is $10 for those who provide their own kayak and $20 for those who wish to rent a kayak. For more information on either of these topics, visit the city website by clicking here or calling 361 485-3200.
