Here’s How You Can Get a Job As an Astronaut. Seriously.
All little kids dream of becoming an astronaut, but there are only a few good men who make the cut. Will you be one of them?
NASA will start accepting astronaut applications on December 14. As you might imagine, landing this out-of-the-world job is a universe away from connecting with someone on LinkedIn or posting your resume on Monster.
In fact, NASA wants to set the record straight by separating fact from fiction about what it takes to be an astronaut.
Vox has put together this handy video to help you decide if you should pursue a career as an astronaut. If you have a bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science or mathematics, like the thought of possibly earning almost $150,000 per year (do you have to report earnings made in orbit?) and are tired of double shifts at Applebee's, this may be the move for you.
We'd say the sky's the limit with this gig, but that would be underselling the possibility, since NASA is eyeing sending astronauts to an asteroid within a decade and Mars in the 2030s.
Don't take it personal if NASA gets your resume, but fails to call back -- the last time it hired astronauts, only eight people got hired out of 6,400 who applied.
Sadly, there's no word on whether you get to keep your suit. That's half the reason to take the job right there.
