Tacos In Space Are Trending And We Are Here for It
Tacos In Space Are HOT!
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have released photos and videos of the first taco with 'homegrown' hatch chile peppers, raised inside the space station and consumed in outer space.
Turns out, it's not the first taco ever to be made in space, but it is the first taco made in space that includes the first-ever space station-grown hatch chiles and that's pretty much the same thing...mind blowing!
In a galaxy far far away... there were hatch chiles.
These hatch chiles are pretty remarkable when you consider that some were hand-pollinated by astronauts aboard the International Space Station for their Planet Habitat-04 study, which is an ongoing experiment of trying to grow different plants in orbit. So far astronauts have grown radishes and lettuces but fall short when it comes to fruit.
We've come a long way baby!
The wonder of growing vegetables in space for future planet habitation aside, we seem to have traveled light-years from the first astronaut meals in the '70s in a BIG way!
The first space foods included thermostabilized packets of color-coded dried meats and vegetables, which incidentally included a sulfur tablet in each packet to keep it from spoiling, all stuffed inside NASA's famous 'food tubes' that looks identical to tubes of toothpaste. GROSS.

In the not too distant future, we may see young farmers in great demand as students of NASA in training, preparing to take flight and pollinate the universe!
