Earth Day is coming up this weekend (Saturday, April 22nd) and you'd think most of the United States was pretty good at being earth-friendly by now. I'm not talking about whole solar-powered electric grids or a majority of vehicles powered by hybrid motors, but a state as big as Texas, which not only has plenty of sunshine year round but, also plenty of wind, I would think we were a little farther ahead of other states in that kind of progress. Unfortunately, we're near the bottom in a lot of areas.

According to WalletHub's survey of 2017's Greenest States, we rank not that great in a number of stats.

Greenness of Texas (1=Greenest, 25=Avg.):

  • 44th – Air Quality
  • 36th – Soil Quality
  • 28th – Water Quality
  • 35th – % of Recycled Municipal Solid Waste
  • 43rd – % of Energy Consumption from Renewable Sources
  • 45th – Energy Consumption per Capita
  • 38th – Gasoline Consumption (in Gallons) per Capita

20 key metrics were compared to put this list together, and you can find out more about it here.
