The sun -- it's more than just a bright ball of light shining down from the sky that can give you a wicked tan or an equally wicked burn.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory put out this exquisite video of the sun, using images recorded with 10 various wavelengths.

The SDO takes a photo of the sun every 12 seconds (that's even more than all those selfie addicts out there), with each wavelength showing the different temperatures of solar material, thus the varying colors in this clip.

It's an awe-inspiring reminder of the majesty of space and the sun.
