After a devastating oil spill on the West Coast in 1969, which plagued the coastlines with over 3 million gallons of spilled oil, Earth Day came into existence. Earth Day is all about celebrating the sacred place where we live: EARTH! It's a day that brings awareness to pollution worldwide and the importance of keeping the Earth clean and reducing waste.

Texas' favorite grocery store H-E-B does its part every Earth Day. This Earth Day, they have announced they will be giving away 200,000 reusable bags throughout their stores around Texas. Their website states that "On April 22, beginning at 1 p.m. customers who visit any H-E-B in Texas can get their complimentary Earth Day bag while supplies last."

Continuing their efforts, H-E-B disclosed they had contributed more than $13 million to over 500 environmental organizations since 2012. Their numbers will continue to steadily rise as they have joined the How2Recycle program to help strengthen and reinforce recycling efforts across the Lone Star State.

According to H-E-B, How2Recycle labels are already on hundreds of H-E-B branded products, including H-E-B, Hill Country Fare, H-E-B Select Ingredients, H-E-B Organics, and Central Market. Their goal is to have 1,500 H-E-B branded items clearly tagged with the program's labels by the end of the year.

H-E-B really is going all out. According to their press release, in 2020 recycled more than 527 million pounds of cardboard, plastics, office paper, food waste, metal, and truck tires. This business has always looked out for Texans and set an example for the rest of grocery store chains, but now they up'd their game and have proved they can do just as much good for the entire world.
