According to TexasTravelTalk.com, Pecos, Texas, was one of the first rodeos to pay out prize money and charge admission in the 1880s. The state of Texas hosts more large rodeos than any other, to the tune of over $150 million yearly spent on rodeos.

6. San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo

San Angelo, Texas, is proud of their western/cowboy heritage. The city ranks as one of America's most western lifestyle cities, thanks to its Welcome Center with a saddle-style roof. The San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo is one of the largest livestock shows in the nation, with a rodeo that consistently ranks in the top two in total entries. Event dates are April 1-20.

5. Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo

This stock show and rodeo have been going on since 1896, and it is the longest-running rodeo in the country. Dates are Jan. 12 to Feb. 3 yearly.

4. Rodeo Corpus Christi – Buc Days

Get these tickets early! This rodeo, which will be held May 8-11, usually sells out. It is held at the American Bank Center on Corpus Christi Bay, so the view is excellent.

 

3. Rodeo Austin

The capitol of Texas has its celebration of everything cowboy March 2-23 with PRCA action, live music, carnival and a livestock show.

2. San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

The Alamo City has its Cowboy Fiesta February 8-25. The PRCA Rodeo takes center stage, but you'll have the Stock Show, Live Entertainment, and Carnival to add to the fun.

1. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Space City hosts the largest rodeo in Texas and the world's most considerable livestock show from February 27 to March 17. It is an action-packed rodeo and stock show that lasts 20 days. It's carnival-like, with live music, ag exhibits, food, and more.
