Something new is afoot for the Crossroads and anyone touring downtown Victoria!

Crossroads, thanks to great local organizations like our Victoria Rotary Club, Victoria Main Street, and the Victoria Fine Arts Association, anyone touring downtown Victoria will soon be more than encouraged to look down on our local art movement and local artists like Josh Vega of Free Art Victoria.

The City of Victoria just released its latest CIVIC Alert giving details as to why looking down on art in the downtown community will be encouraged.

It's all about the sidewalks of course!

In 2023 downtown Victoria will get a facelift, make that a "foot lift" as local artist Josh Vega and associates paint several downtown crosswalks, sure, as the civic alert offers, to put a "spring in the step" of anyone walking through our incredible downtown area!

Have you ever heard of Free Art Victoria?

Prolific artist, Josh Vega, is well known throughout the art community in the Crossroads especially for his Free Art Victoria movement that allows him the freedom of self-expression through his art form while making collecting art as affordable as it is fun for the community as Josh's works are FREE to the public. The trick to collecting Josh's work is that you have to know where to find it. And Josh only offers subtle hints on his Facebook page which you can read here to where his next art drop location will be.

Lucky for us some of Josh's artwork will always only be a few feet away in downtown Victoria for everyone to enjoy!

On February 8th Victoria Rotary donated $1,000.00 to help cover the cost of materials as several crosswalks get painted using what Josh describes as a "plastic material mixed on the spot with organic potassium," which cures in less than ten minutes and is long-lasting, adding beauty and color to our already thriving downtown community.

If you want more information on how you can donate to be a part of the downtown sidewalk project, contact Economic Development Director Danielle Williams at dwilliams@victoriatx.gov or 361-485-3060.

Painting is expected to begin in March 2023.
