It's good to treat yourself, but you might want to put those sugary sweets down for the moment. Powerhouse Mars Wrigley Confectionery, makers of M&M's, Snickers, Starbursts, and Skittles, just to name a few, recently put out a voluntary recall on some of their most famous items.

The large recall includes the notorious Skittles candy, Starburst Gummies, and Life Savers Gummies. 13 different varieties and flavors are included in the recall, you can CLICK HERE to view the list and see photos.

WHY DID THEY ISSUE A RECALL?

The candy mogul sent out an immediate announcement on May 13, stating the reason for the recall as, " voluntary recall of specific varieties...due to the potential presence of a very thin metal strand embedded in the gummies or loose in the bag." 

Although the recall is concerning, the FDA has documented the reports from consumers alerting them of the matter, however, they are not aware of any illness related to the metal strand findings.

HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR CANDY IS PART OF THE RECALL

Products part of the recall were manufactured by a third party and distributed in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. If you have recently purchased Skittles Gummies, StarburstGummies, and Life Savers Gummies, look on the back of the package and find a 10-digit manufacturing code; the first three digits in this code will indicate implicated product as described in the table below:

The massive candy company is working with retailers to remove the recalled products from store shelves. If you believe they have purchased a recalled item, they are advising people to dispose of the product and not consume it.
