2023 East – West Rivalry Game Set for Regular Season Finale
I know it's the middle of summer but it is never too early to start talking about High School Football. This year will be the 14th installment of the big East/West rivalry game and is set for the Regular season finale. Memorial Stadium will be definitely rocking on Friday, November 3rd. Last year, the Boot went to the East Titans with a 33-23 victory over West. The West Warriors will be the home team this year, according to MaxPreps. The St. Joseph High School Flyer 2023 varsity football schedule has already been released, GO BIG BLUE!
The East Titans have the edge with an overall record of 8-5 leading into this year's rivalry.
The very first game of the rivalry was played on November 5th of 2010 which was also the season finale. Of course, the very first matchup took place in front of a mega-sold-out crowd at Memorial Stadium. I remember it was such a big deal that the Fox Sports Network featured it as the Dairy Queen Game of the Week. Who remembers? The city was electric!

THE ORIGINAL RIVALRY:
31 YEARS OF THE STINGS/RAIDERS RIVALRY:
Of course, you can't say the word rivalry in Victoria without bringing up the Victoria Stingarees and Stroman Raiders. The Crosstown rivalry lasted 31 years, with the final game being played in 1999, before the school board voted to consolidate on Sept 30, 1999. Here comes the Memorial Vipers.
The Victoria Stingarees had a record of 24-8 against the Raiders during the 31-year rivalry. The final Stingaree/Raider game was played in 1999 in which the Victoria Stingarees overcame a 14-13 halftime deficit and defeated the Stroman Raiders 53-21. While the Stingarees had the edge on the football field, the Raiders had the big band sound that could not be matched. The Good ole days.
