Meet Constable Williams

KIXS 108  would like to take a moment to say Thank You to all the Heroes Behind the Badge.  We want to say Thank You to all the police officers, sheriff’s deputies, corrections officers, detectives, parole officers, probation officers, SWAT team members, traffic cops, police supervisors, law enforcement managers, fire fighters, EMS personnel and police chiefs.

This week we would like to honor Constable Richard Williams. We asked him a few questions so we could get to know him better.

Any nicknames you have: Richie

Best memory as a child:I grew up in a small town that seem to be very quite and very trust worthy. I can remember leaving the house and not having to worry about locking your car doors or house. The neighbors and friends would always look out for one another.

Favorite music artist or song:Ragged Old Flag by Johnny Cash

Favorite Concert you went too: I would have to say it was Garth brooks before he became well known at the Bluebonnet in Victoria I believe it was in 1989. It wasn't all flashy with lights and it was good music.

Favorite place to eat locally: Tokyo Grill

How long they have been in law enforcement? Since 2005 (11 years), I have a associates degree in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement, Advanced Peace Officer license.

Do you have any pets? If so what are their names?4 pets, (Daisee Mae, Scrappy Doo, Bear, Budreaux)

What made you become an officer? Most of my family have been in law enforcement whether it be military or local law enforcement.

Is anything you want the public to know about you or about law enforcement:There are mis-understandings about what a Constable does in our community.Constable are peace officers and are the first link in the county's chain of law enforcement. Constables have all the enforcement powers of Texas peace officers. Constables are sometimes referred to as the executive officer of the justice of the peace courts. Our duties are to:

*   Subpoena witnesses;

*   Act as bailiff;

*   Execute judgments; and

*   Service of process.

In large metropolitan counties like Harris County, Bexar County the constable may also assist the county and district courts. In addition, they may perform patrol functions and make criminal investigations. They are involved in the overall effort to reduce the effects of crime in their communities, including in some cases the operation of truancy programs.
