What’s For Breakfast, Crossroads? How About Ice Cream?
Today is Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day and it may seem strange at first, but its quite brilliant if you ask me. Whose to say that ice cream cannot be a breakfast food? Who was the one that decided what foods belong to each meal of the day? I wasn't at this meeting, you probably weren't there (unless your an immortal, or a time traveler, or a time traveling immortal), and so its safe to conclude that none of us had any say on the discussion of what constitutes as appropriately themed meal of the day food.
Now that we have that part out of the way, we can get down to business and celebrate today's holiday in style and that is by enjoying your bowl of Lucky Charms with a nice scoop of (WARNING: Shameless Plug Ahead) Blue Bell Ice Cream signature Mardi Gras King Cake, "made with a cinnamon cake flavored ice cream, tasty pastry pieces and a colorful cream cheese swirl with festive candy sprinkles" (found on ice cream container).
The origin of this holiday dates back to the 1960s by a woman named Florence Rappaport who lived in Rochester, NY. She wanted to create a fun breakfast for her children on cold and snow-filled mornings, and her efforts gave rise to this holiday. For some local options on ice cream you can head on over to Marble Slab Creamery, CherryBerry, Karen's SweetPea Cupcakery, and of course store bought ice cream from local retailers like HEB.
