
Weekend Box Office: ‘Real Steel’ Stays at the Top of the Heap
Hugh Jackman’s futuristic father-and-son action flick ‘Real Steel’ earned $16.3 million at the box office this weekend, keeping it atop the charts for the second week in a row.
Remakes of the 1980s classic ‘Footloose’ and horror movie ‘The Thing’ took second and third place, with $16.1 million and $8.7 million in receipts, respectively.
The George Clooney-directed thriller ‘The Ides of March’ sold $7.5 million in tickets to come in fourth, while former chart-topper ‘Dolphin Tale’ rounded out the top five with $6.3 million in earnings.
Here’s a list of the top 10 movies at the box office Friday through Sunday with estimated grosses, along with how much each movie has made since its release:
1. ‘Real Steel’ – $16.3 million, $51.7 million total
2. ‘Footloose’ – $16.1 million, new release
3. ‘The Thing’ – $8.7 million, new release
4. ‘The Ides of March’ – $7.5 million, $22.1 million total
5. ‘Dolphin Tale’ – $6.3 million, $58.6 million total
6. ‘Moneyball’ – $5.5 million, $57.7 million total
7. ’50/50′ – $4.3 million, $24.3 million total
8. ‘Courageous’ – $3.4 million, $21.3 million total
9. ‘The Big Year’ – $3.3 million, new release
10. ‘The Lion King 3D’ – $2.7 million, $90.4 million total
