When people who are not residents of Victoria County are at fault for accidents on county highways, who pays for emergency services? County Commissioners are considering answering that question by billing the at-fault driver's insurance companies.

Officials may hire a third-party collection company to handle the billing if the proposal is approved. Considering that the county fire departments are volunteer, the move could help them raise money for operations, which in a large part is currently funded through fundraising events and donations.

The practice is becoming more popular for departments across the U.S., but it gets mixed reviews. Locally, the proposal would only seek payments from insurance companies of non-residents, and Victoria County residents would not be affected.
