UHV to Remain in Phase 2 of COVID-19 Reopening Plan

The University of Houston-Victoria published a press release Monday that the university would remain in Phase 2 of its COVID-19 reopening plan as the semester begins on January 19.

UH-V formulated a five-phase reopening plan back in June for its Victoria and Katy campus. The UH-V Executive Committee will decide to move from one phase to the other.

Each Phase gradually decreased its restrictions:

Phase 1 is the most restricted.

All classes are online-based only.

Phase 2 permits for limited face-to ace classes, and the library is open by appointment only.

Phase 3 begins to allow athletics to be partially active; the library opens with restricted hours and allows up to 30% occupancy in buildings.

Phase 4 begins 6o allow campus events and boost classroom occupancy to 50%.

Phase 5 is the transition back to functioning as normal-- no restrictions.

Once the spring semester begins, under Phase 2, campus buildings will be open with limited access, including up to 15 percent occupancy in offices and classrooms. Classes will be offered through a combination of online and limited face-to-face options. In it’s press release, it was announced that the UH-V Athletics will continue its activities under strict protocols of testing and physical distancing, according to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics regulations. The university encourages its students, faculty, and staff to take proper precautions, including getting a COVID-19 test prior to coming on-campus.

For those whose classes are not currently offered face-to-face, there are still resources offered. You can schedule an appointment with the Student Success Center, which provides peer tutoring.

The Counseling Center is still offering its services, and enrolled students can schedule appointments for free.

The campus updates their site every Monday with new positive COVID-19 cases in UHV community members (students, faculty, and staff) during the last week and the total number of active cases. As of January 11, there are a total of 11 active cases that have been reported off-campus. Cases not on campus occur when individuals report being off-campus within two days of symptom onset or receiving a positive test.
