The Houston Texans have added another defensive weapon to their arsenal by signing unrestricted free agent Tyrann Mathieu to the team. Known as the 'Honey Badger,' the safety was released from the Arizona Cardinals last week and the Texans claimed him, saving the Cardinals around $5 million in salary cap room. The Cardinals were trying to rework Mathieu's contract, which would have earned him $18.75 million guaranteed. Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy finalist in college and was a 3rd round draft pick in 2013, and was an All-Pro in 2015.

In other Houston Texans signing news, wide receiver Sammy Coates was claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Browns, who are doing a lot in free agency and trading up in the draft. Coates was a 3rd round pick in the 2015 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers where he played 2 seasons before joining Cleveland last year. Coates has 28 career receptions for 516 yards and 2 touchdowns in his 32 games played as a pro.
