St. Joseph High School has released a statement this evening regarding the trial and conviction of Alvin Mumphord III.

Mumphord was a former employee of the high school. On August 10th, Alvin Mumphord III was convicted of 17 counts of child sexual abuse and sentenced to 52 years in prison.

This is a copy of the statement sent to STJ families to assure parents that the school and staff stand with the victims.

It reads;

Yesterday, Alvin Mumphord III, a former employee, was found guilty of 17 felony counts of child sexual abuse and sentenced to 52 years in prison. Mumphord was arrested in 2021 and his criminal trial began on August 1, 2022.

St. Joseph High School President John H. Gilley, IV states, “We stand in solidarity with the victims, who were brave and strong and spoke not only for themselves but for others. We will continue to support them and all those who have been hurt by abusers.”

President Gilley went on to write, "In 2021, when allegations involving Mumphord were reported, St. Joseph High School immediately terminated him from employment and reported the information to law enforcement. St. Joseph High School is committed to ensuring the safety of its students. We are steadfast in our values and will continue to have open communication with students, staff, and our greater community."
