The campus of the University of Houston-Victoria was put on lockdown mode yesterday after a report of a stabbing near the school campus at the corner of Red River and Ben Jordan Streets in Victoria.

Victoria police received a call about a stabbing at a nearby residence on Red River Street, the victim was a 17-year-old who was reportedly stabbed with a box cutter. The youth said he was standing in his yard when the incident occurred and he was taken to a nearby hospital where his injuries were not life-threatening.

Officials say the suspect had left the area and could not be found at the time. They say initial reports about what had happened were false, and they say the incident is likely a domestic one.

The lockdown, which also affected some nearby businesses and doctors' offices was initiated around 1:00 pm, was lifted less than an hour later.
