In the midst of everything we have going on, it's a little jolting to think that hurricane season is right around the corner for Texas. We won't soon forget Hurricane Harvey when in August just three years ago, it devastated our community and neighbors along the coast.

In Texas, June through November is our hurricane season and with this in mind, our Texas Comptrollers office is offering a sales tax holiday incentive from April 25th through April 27th to purchase emergency supplies in preparation for the months ahead.

According to the press release, " You can purchase certain emergency preparation supplies tax-free during the sales tax holiday. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase, and you do not need to give an exemption certificate to claim the exemption." There is a very detailed list on the website with price range stipulations attached as well. Click here for all of the specifics, but the list includes items like generators under $300.00 along with items like batteries under $75.00

Either way, it's a good idea to be prepared and not having to pay the sales taxes is a nice incentive to get started early.

Glenn Hegar, Texas Comptroller included in the release that Texans should adhere to the social distancing guidelines and shop online keeping in mind that the tax incentives will be available for online purchases.
