More than 130 cars and trucks piled up in a deadly car crash that stretched over half a mile on an icy Texas interstate. As Winter Storm Shirley continues to blow across Texas, she is causing quite a chaotic scene, especially in Fort Worth, while creating slippery conditions and layering Texas roads with ice.

Anyone raised in Texas knows ice and yee-haws don't go together. We are used to our 85°+ weather; anything under 50° we are unstable. So, it's no surprise that when temperatures dropped in the 20's this week in Fort Worth, travel was bound to become chaotic; unfortunately, it was quite deadly.

911 calls started pouring into dispatchers just after 6 a.m. after a massive pile-up of more than 130 cars jammed onto Interstate 35 in Fort Worth. Masses of car trucks and even 18-wheelers were all mixed in as vehicles slide along the highway. Drivers were not prepared for the wet and slick conditions that were formed overnight as freezing rain and sleet feel on the roads the night before.

Fort Worth Fire spokesperson Mike Drivdahl said

According to CBSDFW, A total of 14 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, transporting 36 people, of which six were pronounced dead.
