So is this going to actually be a thing? Are we really going to see Matthew McConaughey on the ballot for Texas Governor? We keep putting up articles about the possibility because it seems like McConaughey for governor seems to keep gaining momentum.

A recent poll of registered voters, they compared the favorability of McConaughey and current Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

  • 42% of voters had a favorable opinion of Matthew McConaughey, while 20% had an unfavorable. 36% of voters said they don't have enough information to have an opinion yet.
  • For Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 49% of voters had a favorable opinion, with 43% unfavorable. Just 7% were unsure about their opinion.

Does this mean that McConaughey has a chance at becoming the next Governor of Texas? Yeah. The numbers show there's at least a chance. But, you there is also a lot of time between now and the actual election. Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 will be when we decide the next Governor of the Lone Star State.

There have also been rumors that Beto O'Rourke has been thinking about running for governor as well, but those still remain rumors. We could see a ballot with all three of men as candidates. Most probably think that McConaughey would run as a Democrat because of his close link to Austin and the University of Texas, but that's not necessarily the case. We don't know a lot about his political views and policies, so he could run as a third party, going up against both Greg Abbott and Beto O'Rourke. But, only time will tell.
