Patrick Mahomes Father Caught Drunk Driving 3rd Time in Texas
Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, after he was caught for the third time driving while intoxicated (DWI).
THIRD DWI OFFENSE
This incident, classified as a third-degree felony due to it being his third or more DWI charge, occurred on a Saturday evening when Tyler Police Department officers stopped him. During the stop, officers noted an open can of beer in his vehicle and subsequent sobriety tests led to his arrest.
According to the affidavit, the officer explained, “I asked Patrick why he was drinking while driving. Patrick told me he had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar."
POTENTIAL PENALTIES FOR THE CHARGES
Mahomes Sr., who played in the MLB in the late 1990s and early 2000s, faces serious penalties for this charge, including potential prison time and a substantial fine. He was released on a $10,000 bond with several conditions, including no alcohol or drug use and the installation of an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
GRANTED FREEDOM TO TRAVEL TO THE SUPERBOWL
The arrest comes just a week before Patrick Mahomes II is to make his fourth Super Bowl appearance. Despite the arrest, Mahomes Sr. has been granted the freedom to travel and is expected to attend the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
Legal experts suggest that Mahomes Sr. might negotiate a plea for a lesser charge, but he faces a challenging legal battle ahead.
