Super Bowl 49’s Best Classic Rock Commercials
Here's a look back at the best Super Bowl XLIX commercials featuring classic rock. From Van Halen to Harry Chapin, from Ted Nugent to the Beatles, your favorite artists once again helped make 2015's big game into the big event it always is.
Ted Nugent's 'Stranglehold'
Carl's Jr.In this controversial spot, an apparently nude Charlotte McKinney, who'd been lauded as "the next Kate Upton," went on an eye-catching stroll through a farmers' market to the opening riff of "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent. It all had something to do with Carl's Jr. hamburgers, apparently.
The Beatles' 'All You Need Is Love'
Republic of EcuadorA tourism spot for the Republic of Ecuador was filled with old-timey trains, colorful flora and content-looking turtles – all to the soundtrack of the Beatles' classic "All You Need Is Love."
Harry Chapin's 'Cats in the Cradle'
NissanTitled "With Dad," this ad made perfect use of Harry Chapin's chart-topping 1974 hit "Cats in the Cradle" along side some touching imagery of parenting. Oh, and some very fast cars.
Van Halen's 'Pretty Woman'
Nationwide InsuranceVan Halen's cover of the Roy Orbison classic "(Oh) Pretty Woman" was used to ironic effect in a commercial starring Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project. Feeling invisible, she decides to test this supposed new superpower – including shoplifting, sunbathing nude and even walking through a car wash.
Bob Dylan's 'The Man in Me'
Turbo Tax"The Man in Me," from 1970's New Morning, was never a well-known song in Bob Dylan's long catalog. But since appearing in The Big Lebowski, its stature has risen considerably. And there it is again at the end of this Boston Tea Party-themed commercial from Turbo Tax.
