TLDR:

  • Tom Brady revealed his current dog, Junie, is a clone of his late dog, Lua.
  • The cloning was done by a Dallas-based company.

Tom Brady just dropped one of the most interesting confessions of the year: his dog Junie isn’t just adorable; she’s a genetic copy of his old dog, Lua.
Turns out, Brady’s been interested in this type of science and is an investor in Colossal Biosciences, which recently acquired Viagen Pets and Equine, a Texas cloning company.

“A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our elderly dog before she passed,” Brady said.

Fast-forward a few months, and boom: Junie was born, consider her a Lua 2.0.

Meet the Texas companies behind it

If “Colossal Biosciences” sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same Dallas company that brought the dire wolf out of extinction and is actively trying to bring back the woolly mammoth and dodo bird. Now, with Viagen under their belt, they’re expanding from extinct species to everyday family pets.
Viagen’s a popular name in animal cloning and has cloned Barbra Streisand’s and Paris Hilton’s dogs.

Brady says it's like a "second chance."

Brady and Gisele Bündchen got Lua back in 2014, and when Lua passed away in 2023, Gisele posted a tribute that broke hearts everywhere.
Brady says the tech gave his family “a second chance.”

“I’m excited how Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species,” he said.
