Houston Shoplifter Breaks Both Legs Jumping Onto Ice Rink
If you’ve ever worked retail, you know what it’s like to watch someone try to get away with shoplifting, until they go full Fast & Furious in the food court.
People inside the Houston Galleria got a glimpse of what it's like to be in an action movie as a man tried to escape police by leaping off the second-floor balcony, onto the ice rink.
The incident began when Galleria security located a man they believed to be involved in a shoplifting attempt. That’s when things took a sharp turn from petty theft to a full-blown action movie.
The ultimate action movie.
According to witnesses, the man began sprinting through the upper level of the mall, dodging security guards, and drawing attention from nearby shoppers. As the chase escalated, he stopped at a second-floor railing, looked back at the guards chasing him, and yelled, “Come get me!”
Then he jumped.
Unfortunately for him, this wasn’t a movie stunt. He landed on the rink, legs first, and immediately collapsed, screaming in pain.
“He jumped straight down, tried to land, and when he hit the ice, his legs literally went out from under him—they snapped,” witness, Martyn Norris told FOX 26.
Broken legs and criminal charges.
The man was transported to the hospital with serious leg injuries and is expected to face charges related to theft and evading detention. Police have not released his name.
The moral of the story? If you're going to commit a crime at the mall... maybe don’t end it by breaking your own legs.
