‘My Windows Blew Out': Austin Explosion Injures 6
A sudden explosion shattered a Austin neighborhood on Sunday morning, injuring six people, destroying one home, and damaging nearly two dozen others.
“I realized all my windows had been blown out,” said Carol Hassell, a neighbor whose home was among the 24 damaged.
The massive explosion shocked the Austin neighborhood just before 11:30 a.m. and damaged at least 24 surrounding homes.
Neighborhood Damage and Response
Two people inside the home at the time were seriously injured- one critically and one in serious condition. A neighbor was also hurt, and two firefighters responding to the scene were among those injured.
The explosion caused power outages throughout the area and even set a nearby vehicle on fire. Power was restored to most homes later in the day, but heavily damaged houses remained without electricity.
However, they weren't the only ones who got hurt; a nearby neighbor was also critically injured from the explosion. Two firefighters who were responding to the scene were also injured.
A nearby neighbor described the explosion.
Carol Hassell explained the moment she heard the explosion, “I went out in the backyard, and the back door had been blown open."

Officials cleared out the street to control the chaos, “This street will be closed for the rest of the day,” Assistant Fire Chief Thayer Smith said, adding that emergency crews would be on-site for the next few hours.
The Travis County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion. No explanation has been confirmed, although foul play is not suspected at this time.
