Heaven on earth for me is sushi on a conveyor belt.

I know I am not alone when I say, I love sushi. Did you know there are now over 4,000 sushi restaurants in the US? You guessed it, sushi is one of the fastest-growing international foods in the world, and with news of it being served on conveyor belts in San Antonio now, we can all get our fill of this delicious Japanese cuisine and then some!

Shokuji ni shimasho! That means, "Let's eat" in Japanese.

What's sushi's history and why is it so popular?

I mean come on, we're talking about raw fish. When did Americans begin to buy into raw fish and rice? According to Foodtruckempire.com it took America a while to embrace Japanese cuisine (although let's be clear, sushi is really a CHINESE thing, dating back to the 2nd Century B.C.)  again after WW2, but now, get this, according to Food Truck Empire, 62 percent of Americans eat sushi. More and more Americans are turning their thumbs up instead of their noses at sushi! This might blow your mind... sushi is a 22 billion dollar industry.

Kuri Sushi in San Antonio is almost open!

The first conveyor belt sushi restaurant is almost open in San Antonio and I am there for it! Located at the Alamo Quarry Market, at 255 E. Basse Road, #384 the popular restaurant has several locations in Texas, the closest one before this new opening is in Austin.

Curious about conveyor belt sushi popular in Japan?

If you have no idea what in the world conveyor belt sushi restaurants are, here is a video by Cup of TJ as she explores two Japanese conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Japan. It's an endless feast of sushi LOVE.

I'm counting the days and trying not to count the calories when San Antonio's first revolving sushi bar opens. What's your favorite sushi or sushi roll? Let us know on our station apps.
