Shocking news coming from Waxahachie Texas this morning after the Waxahachie police reported that a newborn baby, an infant boy, likely just a few hours old was found outside a Texas apartment complex in the bushes early Thursday morning.

According to the report, the newborn had been wrapped in a t-shirt before being discarded. Thankfully he was still alive when he was found and continues to get treatment while in custody at a local hospital.

It was not clear at first who the newborn belonged to but it didn't take long for authorities who were investigating the apartment complex where the newborn was found to discover he was born to a desperate teenager who felt she had to hopelessly abandon him.

It's not clear at this time why the teen mother thought that abandoning him was her only alternative.

According to the Waxahachie Police Department Facebook post which you can read here, the infant is in the custody of Child Protective Services currently, and no charges have been filed at this time until a full investigation into the story is complete.

Likely the teen mother was not aware that there is a safe alternative.

It's the Safe Haven law in Texas and it's designed to keep both the baby and the parent safe.

The Safe Haven law which is also known as the Baby Moses law, gives parents who are unable to care for their child a safe and legal choice to leave their infant with an employee at a designated "safe place" such as a hospital or a fire station.

If you leave your infant, who must be 60 days old and younger and unharmed at a fire or EMS station, you will not be prosecuted for abandonment or neglect.
