Happy Pistachio Day, Crossroads!
So, let's get this out of the way...Do you like pistachios? If the answer is no, you may have something wrong with your taste buds and should seek medical assistance immediately if you want to celebrate today's holiday. If you choose not to like pistachios, and it isn't medically related, then clearly this is not the holiday for you and I ask you to sit aside with your Pistachio Hateful ways and let the rest of us enjoy in peace...we'll have a food-related holiday for you yet but just not today.
So, Happy Pistachio Day! If you don't know what pistachios are, you may be new to food. However, that is okay and let me take some time to educate you on the pistachio. Some scholars (not sure which ones per se, but that's how most of these historical tidbits start) have theorized that pistachios have been used a food since the way-back-when-time of 6000 B.C. Since then, there have been some experiments in the culinary arts that have utilized the pistachio in ways the folks from back then may not have even considered.
True, you could celebrate today's holiday by going to your local HEB (or another grocery/snack outlet) and buying the pistachios to eat straight out of the bag. For those who want adventure and excitement I recommend you create some homemade pistachio treats.
Is butter not your thing? Then how about ice cream?
There are, of course, numerous ways to use pistachios in cooking but hopefully, these two videos gave you some idea on where or how to start. For more information on today's holiday and other ways to celebrate, click here.
