Yesterday the City of Galveston made the decision to cancel its 2021 Mardi Gras celebration.  The decision was made due to the rising case numbers and concerns over the coronavirus.   As reported by the Galveston County Daily news.   Policymakers felt it would be difficult to enforce social distancing and other precautious during the festivities, which draw tens of thousands of attendees each year. The vote to cancel was unanimous and with little discussion, the outlet reported.
As we move up the road to Houston, we find that RODEO HOUSTON has not been canceled but rescheduled.  RODEO HOUSTON officials are still hopeful that they can pull this off.  The original show was scheduled for March 2 – 21.   RODEOHOUSTON competitions, concerts and entertainment, carnival, and other attractions and activities are now scheduled for May 4 – 23, 2021, pending COVID-19 health status. The Junior Livestock and Horse Show competitions will still be held in March, as previously announced.

While there are no guarantees in the current environment but moving the dates of the 2021 Rodeo out by two months provides a better opportunity to host the events. Additional details surrounding the 2021 Rodeo will be shared by early March, as well as the full health and safety guidelines.

The San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo is still greenlit, as of now.  The SA rodeo runs from February 11th-28th and the entertainment schedule is out and is scaled down due to the current pandemic. The fairgrounds will be LIMITED for the 2021 show.  Health and safety guidelines will be adhered to.  Check out the full entertainment lineup by clicking here.
