Assassin’s Creed Game May Help in the Restoration of Notre Dame Following Fire
Our modern society relies on technology for almost everything, and now, a video game may be the hero in fixing tragedy. One of the games in the Assassin's Creed franchise, 2014's Unity, may help in the restoration of Notre Dame following the recent catastrophic fire that almost burnt down 856 years of history.
Assassin's Creed: Unity was developed by Ubisoft and designed by Alexandre Pedneault and Caroline Miousse, who spent two years meticulously recreating a perfect virtual model of the Notre Dame cathedral. Pedneault reportedly still has all of the materials he used during the project - including 3D models and photos. Check out a video of the structure in the game below.
Ubisoft has donated over $550,000 toward restoring the landmark church as of this morning. Additionally, the company is offering Unity to PC users to download for free until April 25.
"In light of Monday's events, we will be donating €500,000 to help with the restoration and reconstruction of the Cathedral. We encourage all of you who are interested to donate as well. In addition, we want to give everyone the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of Notre-Dame the best way we know how. For one week, we will be giving Assassin's Creed Unity away free on PC, for anyone who wants to enjoy it," Ubisoft states on their website.
"When we created Assassin's Creed Unity, we developed an even closer connection with this incredible city and its landmarks – one of the most notable elements of the game was the extraordinary recreation of Notre-Dame." Access the store to download the game here.
