A Snow Leopard Is Missing at The Dallas Zoo Causing it to Close
The famous Dallas Zoo has had to close this morning due to a very serious situation.
One of their snow leopards has been reported missing!
Zoo officials said they issued a "code blue" for a "non-dangerous animal that is out of it habitat."
The Dallas Zoo is closed starting around 10:15 this morning after a clouded leopard was reported missing and crews began their search.
Multiple police were on hand and drones were released to help in the search for the leopard.
"One of our clouded leopards was not in its habitat when the team arrived this morning and is unaccounted for at this time," the zoo said in a statement on Facebook. "Given the nature of these animals, we believe the animal is still on grounds and hiding."
More information about the search was not immediately released, but officials were planning an 11:30 a.m. news conference.
The snow leopard is named Nova.
What is not known is how this 25 pound female was able to escape her encloser and if she is in immediate danger. It is likely that she headed into the trees at the zoo so zoo authorities are looking up for her!
According to Quora, 'Snow leopards can be as dangerous as any cat, but avoid and shy away from human contact and interaction as we are their only natural predator."
Another source, DavidShepard.org offers, "Snow leopards have not been reported to attack humans and are the least aggressive big cat towards human populations. However, livestock raiding is becoming an increasing problem", so animals throughout the Dallas zoo might be in the most immediate danger.
