You may have noticed a distinct lack of updates on my schoolin'. Or maybe you didn't. Fine. See if I get you a Christmas present this year.

The major reason for that lack of updates has been a lack of time to write those updates. And that lack of time is a story in and of itself.

When last I wrote, I told you about my trials and tribulations in procuring supplies for my art class. What I didn't get around to tell you about was that the very next night, in my physiology and anatomy lecture, I had a pop quiz.

Ah, the forgotten joys of the pop quiz. The sudden inevitable feeling that I've forgotten to wear pants to class, the flop sweats as I put my books and notes away, and the onset of nausea. So much I'ev not missed in the last 20 years of not being in class.

There's also the plain and simple fact that I haven't made the time to actually study last week's notes, which, fortunately, were much more detailed than my prior notes in art class.

The majority of the test is multiple choice which actually saves my bacon. I manage to eliminate some of the answers through CSI-like deductive reasoning. Many of you would call it "guessing".

The test comes and goes and I realize I'm going to have to do a lot more studying if I'm going to survive this ordeal. I'm convinced as the professor picks up the quizzes that I have failed so utterly that I will not be able to show my face for a good week.

The next night is my physiology and anatomy lab which has me facing off against the same professor who teaches my lecture. I arrive several minutes early to ask about my grade on the quiz the night before but before I can, he actually began to question me about my educational background. We'd had a brief discussion the first night of class but I hadn't gone into great detail.

"Mr. Gritta. When was the last time you took an anatomy class?"

"I, um, I never took one."

"I see. And the last time you took a chemistry course," he asked, looking at me over the top of his glasses. I'm not sure I liked where this was going.

"Well, I never really took one of those either. Physical Science would be the closest to a chem class I ever had and that was back in high school..."

His stare was making me uncomfortable so I didn't even pursue the line of questioning to see what I had made on my quiz.

Two days later, I checked online to discover that I had not only passed the quiz, I'd aced it.

I won't bore you with the details of the celebration but there was some dancing involved. Okay, more than some, there was a lot of dancing involved. And an attempt at moonwalking.

The celebration would be short lived, however, as the very next week would see me sitting in front of yet another quiz. And this time, I knew for sure I was guessing and guessing wrong.

I managed a passing grade and I'm still studying. The hardest part has been getting back into the habit of studying on a regular basis and making time for those studies but I'm managing.

I imagine the complete lack of a social life doesn't hurt matters.

As the semester progresses, I will attempt to update more regularly but I can tell you this...

I'm actually ready for tonight's quiz.

More to come.
