Most everything we’ve heard from SNL Season 43 has involved those leaving the series behind, so there’s finally good news from up top. So long as our national nightmare persists, Alec Baldwin will be back in his golden wig to deliver that bigly famous Trump impression.
For good or ill, perhaps no comedy series has benefit so much from Donald Trump as SNL. Following weeks of debate sketches, most everyone wondered how the late-night staple would react to Trump actually succeeding to the presidency, for which this weekend’s cold open brought Kate McKinnon’s Hillary out; both in tribute to Leonard Cohen, and to offer a moving “Hallelujah” going forward.
SNL burst out of the gate for Season 42 over the weekend, having spent a summer in transition with headline after headline passing them by. Leslie Jones in particular had something to say about the hack she suffered in August, recruiting Mr. Robot himself to track down the culprit in a new sketch.
Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David has been no stranger to SNL in recent months, between the 40th Anniversary and his Bernie Sanders impression, but this Saturday will be a well-deserved homecoming for the former staff writer. Or not, as David doesn’t really want you to watch anyway, judging by the first promos.
Oh, what fortuitous timing be this. Just days before February, SNL has set its second host of the 2016 month behind Larry David, as Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon’s fellow Ghostbuster Melissa McCarthy will return to take the stage, with none other than Kanye West bringing up the rear.
