Republican District Judge Jack Marr has announced that he will seek re-election. A native Texan, Marr has served as District Judge of the 24th Judicial District since 2013. This Judicial District covers Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio, and Victoria counties.

Marr holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a Law Degree from Texas Tech University, and as an attorney became Board Certified as a Family Law Specialist in 1983. He has completed over 2,100 hours of Continuing Legal Education, and been honored repeatedly as a “Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly Magazine. Marr recently received the Allison Unger Award for excellence from the Texas Family Law Foundation.

As an attorney practicing in Victoria and surrounding counties for over 35 years, Marr handled more than 2,000 cases involving many different legal issues. As a District Judge, he has presided over a number of major trials, including Capital Murder cases and large multi-party oil & gas cases. Marr has also ruled on numerous cases involving complex criminal, civil, and family law matters.

“I believe strongly in our Constitution, and that it means what it says. People deserve to have their legal cases decided based on the law as it’s written, not by guess work or judicial activism. As a judge, I strive every day to apply the law fairly and justly with wisdom. One size does not fit all when deciding cases, and there are no cookie-cutter solutions for the complex problems people bring to court,” Marr commented.

Marr, 66, has been married to the former Sharon Hutto for nearly 45 years, and they have two sons and four grandchildren. An avid hunter and fisherman, Marr is a member of Ducks Unlimited and CCA.

“I’ve never been afraid of hard work, and whether hearing a case or reviewing an emergency order, I have no problem coming in early or staying late to ensure justice is done. It’s our duty as judges to listen carefully to the testimony and facts in each case, then apply the written law to those facts. Justice delayed is justice denied, and I work to decide cases promptly after listening to all sides and hearing the facts. It’s an honor to serve as your District Judge, and I would be honored to keep working for you in the courtroom,” Marr concluded.
