Jack the Cat, the adorable orange tabby who was found after being lost at JFK airport for two months, was euthanized on Sunday due to complications relating to malnourishment and dehydration. Our condolences to Jack’s owners and his many fans.

Jack escaped from his carrier while in the care of American Airlines in August and eluded capture for two months. Eventually, he was found after falling through the ceiling of a customs office and taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment. His plight was well-documented on both a Twitter account and Facebook page.

But despite life-saving measures like a feeding tube, antibiotics and an operation, Jack never fully recovered. Veterinarians euthanized the cat as a way to ease his suffering. Rest in peace, Jack.
