The City of Victoria has closed roads at the intersection of North Ben Jordan and Airline because of what they're calling a large underground cavity that could become a danger to traffic.

Repair crews were working on a collapsed utility line when the cavity was discovered yesterday evening and closed the area to traffic to make repairs. The cavity is large, about 10 feet in diameter and 9 feet deep. Ben Jordan Street from Terrace Avenue northward to Poplar Avenue is closed, along with Airline Road from Azalea Street eastward to Oleander Drive. Detours have been set up around the area as repairs are made, which officials say could take up to 2 weeks to complete.

The city has not said what might have caused the cavity or how large it might be.
