Bill O’Brien Will Coach Houston Texans at Least One More Season

The Houston Texans had a difficult year for sure, besieged with injuries including defensive star J.J. Watt and emerging star quarterback Deshaun Watson, that resulted in a record of 4-12. After the rough year, some were questioning whether or not Head Coach Bill O'Brien would be fired. The answer to that, at least for now, is no.

The coach has one year remaining on his contract, and in a recent press conference, he didn't directly answer questions about a possible contract extension.

This year was the team's first losing season since he took over, leading the Texans to 9-7 records in each of his first 3 seasons, winning the division in the past 2 years.

Here's what I think. The problem isn't with the coach, it's with the backup quarterbacks. Tom Savage started off the season with a mediocre performance, but when rookie Deshaun Watson took over, we saw the difference between an average QB and a great one. Only time will tell if Watson can be consistent and really be an offensive force next season. I think he can, especially since he's a big run threat to go along with his big arm. Bottom line: the Texans need a quality backup quarterback. Tom Savage a T.J. Yates just aren't getting it done.
